Karume, Michelle Wariara, DMFT.

Dr. Michelle Wariara Karume is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at United States International University–Africa and a trained Doctor of Marital and Family Therapy, Medical Family Therapist, and Marriage and Family Therapist. She has previously served at Loma Linda University and Catholic Charities in California, USA, and has received multiple awards for excellence in research, leadership, and service, including the Wilbur Alexander Wholeness Award. Dr. Karume’s scholarship spans medical family therapy, marital and family relationships, trauma, and mental health, with publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference presentations at local and international forums. Her funded research focuses on early childhood trauma and its link to adult physical and mental health outcomes, and she has supervised numerous master’s and doctoral students. In addition to her academic work, she has played a key role in program development for graduate training in marriage and family therapy, contributes to professional associations, and is actively engaged in community service and capacity building.
