Quin Elizabeth Awuor, PhD.

Prof. Quin E. Awuor is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of Languages and Literature, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, at United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa). In her role, she provides strategic oversight of the student experience across academic, welfare, and co-curricular dimensions of university life. With over eighteen years of experience in university teaching, academic leadership, and institutional governance, Prof. Awuor has held several senior roles at USIU-Africa, including Chair of the Department of Languages and Literature, Senate Member, Chair of the Language Lab Implementation Committee, Chair of the Academic Centre of Excellence Committee, and Vice Chair of the Institutional Ethics and Research Review Board (IERB). She has also served on the Commission for University Education (CUE) Institutional Quality Audit Steering Committee and has completed strategic leadership and executive development programmes to strengthen her governance practice. Prof. Awuor holds a Bachelor of Education in Arts (Linguistics and Literature) from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Linguistics from Kenyatta University, Kenya. She is a Research Scholar Fellow with the Alliance for African Partnership (AAP) at Michigan State University, USA, and a COIL Fellow (Africa, 2026). Her research spans indigenous language systems, health and cancer communication, multilingual education policy, and language, culture and identity. She developed the SILC (Sustainable Indigenous Leadership Communication) Model. Prof Awuor is a 2025–2026 DIES–NMT Fellow, supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Rectors' Conference (HRK), and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). She is also Co-Principal Investigator on a Lacuna Fund grant to build parallel NLP corpora for the Dholuo, Kidawida, and Kalenjin languages. Prof. Awuor's scholarly output comprises five books, more than twenty peer-reviewed articles, contributed chapters to edited academic volumes, and presentations at international conferences across Africa, the USA, New Zealand, and Europe. She serves as an external examiner for regional universities and as a reviewer for the Mandela Washington Foundation. Prof. Awuor is committed to community engagement and mentorship. She supports emerging scholars through the Mawazo Institute and serves as Patron of the USIU-Africa Spoken Arts and Debate Society (SADS), hosting annual regional and world championship events. She serves on school and other boards of management, and is a member of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Senior Secondary English Panel. She has also consulted for Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), the World Bank, and African Language Consultants LLC. She is a member of CODESRIA, KUQAN, AFELT, BIEA, LAEA, ALTA, KESSA, and the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) of the USA.
